Pioneering sports announcer, known as “the Voice of Sports” in Boston. From 1939 to 1972, he covered sports on three radio stations and at least two television stations, radio (WNAC, WBZ, and WHDH), television (WBZ-TV and WNAC-TV) and in print (Boston Herald).

From 1939 to 1972, he covered sports on three radio stations and at least two television stations, radio (WNAC, WBZ, and WHDH), television (WBZ-TV and WNAC-TV) and in print (Boston Herald). Leo began working in Boston for WNAC and the Yankee Network, in 1939. Soon after, he became sports director, then moved to WBZ in 1946 where he did regular sportscasts. On radio he called games for the Boston Red Sox (1949 – 50), Boston Braves (1949 – 50), and Boston Bruins (1946 – 52).He also called Red Sox games on WBZ-TV and WNAC-TV in 1949. During the 1960’s he was the morning sports reporter on WHDH with Jess Cain in the 1960s, and also hosted “The Voice of Sports,” telephone talk show on WHDH, 1972 – 1973.
