Peter Mehegan
Peter Mehegan was a fixture on Boston television for nearly 40 years and is best known for his 23 years as co-host of WCVB-TV’s Chronicle with Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Famer Mary Richardson. In 1967, the Boston native and resident of Scituate broke into television as a writer and news producer at WBZ-TV and went on to on-air reporting and anchoring for that station. While with WBZ, Mehegan was awarded an Emmy for outstanding news reporting for his coverage of protests at the Seabrook, New Hampshire nuclear power plant. In 2002, he received a Columbia-Dupont award for coverage of Boston’s Big Dig. In 1981, Mehegan moved to Boston’s WCVB-TV where he continued work as a news reporter and anchor. He was chosen as co-anchor of the Chronicle news magazine in 1982 and remained in that position until his retirement in 2005. Mehegan’s best known Chronicle feature was On the Road Again, nearly two decades traveling the back roads of Maine in his restored 1969 Chevy Impala.
